Day 20: Rampur - Shimla - Delhi

Previous

Home

This would be the last day of our Journey. W got up early and packed the nags and left straight away. The plan was to reach Narkanda for Break Fast. hatu was very near to us but there is no chance of us making to it. :( There were a lot of snow enroute to narkanda. Huge truck(13 wheeler) has rolled over. The workers were putting mud on the snow.

We crossed Narkanda, then came to Kurfi should be last snow of our ride

Then reached Shimla around 12. Took the Bye pass and round down. There i would see the cars trying to play with the curves and soon I a car stuck at a ditch at a corner. Hmmm. Came a bit down and had lunch.
The Sunset near Shimla

We then reached PanchaKula. Traffic was bit high there. But after that The Delhi Highway started and was its Best. Again met some traffic jam in Chandhigar and was able to squeeze through. After that the 6 lane roads were too good. It was high speed traffic. On the way there was a Truck tire's rethread layer lying on the middle of the road. We luckily avoided. The left lane was bit free. So we took it and was cruising above 100+. We entered Delhi by 2 and went near the Railway station and got a hotel there.

Was very much unwilling.... had to leave chitkul...

We left around 4 from Chitkul, the ride down was good, almost was looking down the valley many a times. By the we reached the Construction zone, it was completely Dark. Still almost 9 hrs of ride remaining to reach Narkanda. We rode our bikes steady. This time sonce we where on the left ie on the mountain side of the road, we roade a little faster.

On the other side of the mountain, we could see Forest fire happening. I was very huge and wide spread. Not sure if it was planned or accidental. Few pics

We crossed rampur by 10 pm. All the time(for the past 3 days), my chain guard was hitting the Chain on almost every path hole. And after 4 kms from Rampur, it knocked the chain lock away. and there I stand in middle of the road no lights around expect for the Forest fire.
I quickly sat down with my tools and the extra chain link. Then I realized that the battery of torch we had lost its power, may be due to the cold temperatures last night. I had to use the Nokia mobiles light. Held the mobile to my mouth and continued. I also had the head light on, so that I can see things around. Meanwhile Shyam went ahead to find a mechanic in the near by town. Within half hour I was able to fix it. Then Shyam came with the mechanic. He has almost searched the entire rampur gullys to find the mechanics house. It was already 10:30, the mechanic checked the fitment and took a test ride. It was now 11:00 and we had almost 2 hrs of ride left. he decided to stay there for the night! and Did!

Day 19 : Peo to Sangla to Rampur

We woke up in the morning and was surprised that it was dark even at 8am. We came out to ve a look at the bikes. (un)Luckily there was no snow fall. Touched the bikes with bare hands. It was much coldest things that I ever touched. went inside to know ve a chat with the cook/guard. The cook said that he can make something for us. he also said that the temp at night was -16. he heard it form the radio and said that his wife will come there tonight and some local things. He took us outside and showed the Amarnath Hill. He said that it will take 2 days by horse to reach there. we asked will ppl go now too. Nope, even the guides wont come, as all the resting places will be full of snow.

The sunride happens at 9:30

The Glow

There no food left to pack. Packed the bags and came down to Peo. Wannted to buy a Kinnur shaw but the starting range was 4K... hmmm
Soon we came down and moved towards Sangla. hmm.. there were absolutely no roads. But were not difficult to ride. we reached the karcham village. The cops told us that there are black ice through out and to come back before sunset. hearing this Shyam refused to continue. so took the foot pump and some breads and I went ahead. The ride through out was too good. Full of white ice, frozen stream etc. At the 3rd Frozen stream, I hesitated for a minute but then something in me said that this will be the last and after this U will see something very beautiful. So went ahead. While crosssing it, in the middle the ice gave away and the rear wheel went in for a full 1 feet. I was still on bike with no foot down. Took out the mobile but no signal. thut for fill 30 mins then put the left foot down and tried to push. that ice to gave away and water soaked my shoe. Swung the bike to and fro and then accelerated and luckily it pulled out. (I didnt stop for any fotos) then the roads disappeared and only large stones. Then reached the Real Dead END

After taking all these pics I came to my bike. Removed the left(wet) shoe and saw that it was full redish pink. kept the foot on the silencer and felt it was cold. smiled to myself that even the bull is not hot. But while turning back my socks touched the silencer and there were"fumes'.. Shit I got scared and kept the full feet on the silencer near the engine. after a full 15 secs I felt the heat. Was happy. rubbed the feet all over the silencer. changed the socks. while going back I need to put the right feet down so changed 1 shoe and lef the other

The roads

The 3rd stream - A bus passed by before this and It broke the ice

Let the beauties speak...

the valley

After this I reached karchan. There stood Shyam with a nice hair Cut . he made friends with some tamil guy there. he is Kamal and belonged to Madurai. his dads 2nd wife stays at Nepal and he take care of that family. He also said a Funny thing. "There all the guys(sons) with a family will marry all the gals/gals in another family. i.e say there are 5 sons in a family then all 5 will marry 1 gal in another family. and to identify who is in the bedroom, they should leave their hat outside." he said the population is so less here so its not possible to find that many gals. He stated eg of dhruvpathi

Also the more interesting thing is the gov there will give 1 barrel of liquor to each family. the only rule is just grow apples. The red apples are for sales. and Golden one is for them self. The golden on will last for 3 months minimum. so the winter is gone. the apple leaves are used to make some Tea drinks. he said that since its new year eve the snow is cleared. Anything after this will stay in stay till winter. Also the way they drink is different. a half glass of liquor half glass of water and a bottom sip always.
