jan 1 08:
We got up a bit early exchanged greetings and went to the kitchen to looking for food. Nothing available except for some beated-rice and breads. Packed some and moved forward. The climate was warm enough to ride without the thermals. After I crossed a few path holes, I heard some noise from the chain. Stopped and saw that the Chain cover pivot was broken and was hitting the chain on bumps. back tracked to the previous village, and request the fellow to remove the chain cover. he refused and forced me to accept that its not a problem. We tightened the chains and moved forward. The roads were narrow with occasionally bad roads. avg speed was 40 now

Took a break and muched the food that we packed and rode ahead hoping to meet the Shimla - Rampur road sooner. We always had company of some river flowing either to the right or left.

Ah! atlast reached the junction and zipped throught the turns and then stopped for a road side falls.

At rampur we had lunch and met a couple of tourers who had been to Peo and Sangla. They gave us some apples and wished us. The road after rampur was good but narrow and was without a boundry wall on the left. A fall from there means that not even the bones can be picked.

We Cant ride towards the mid lane even as I encountered a couple of speedy cars on 2 consecutive turns. Stopped for a while and peeped down. Mummy!! Even the Sucide Points of Ooty and kodaikanal was not that every steeeppp...!! uff! Started the bikes and moved on! and soon in a semi Tunnel(inverted L shaped ) I heard anther "Thud" followed by some gun firing sounds.. thut the back fire was soo load and moved on. Then after few minutes heard another "thut" this was not in a tunnel. Thut there is come test firing going and stopped to ve a look. And what I was... " A live land slide..."

hmm.. was happy that the same didnt happen this side of the valley! We rode and soon reached some construction sights. All we would see is a big tunnels bored into the mountains and the Roars of the machineries. The road was full of boulders and slush. It was very slippery.

Bikes Line up .

Asked for the routes tp Kalpa and moved on. Soon we took the deviation for Peo from the hindustan-Tibetian Trade route. and started climbing Up. Uff!! the chillness was getting to to the bones. We cold see ice glittering on either side of the Roads and was sure that we were riding on Black Ice. As we reached Peo, cops noted our numbers and let us go. We climbed up for a hour and then we realized that we were lost. At a distance we say a small house with a lamp glowing. It was a good 70 degree climb from the road. Was a real clutch burner. Shyam stayed back as his pulsar was wheeling but never moved an inch. banged the door and out came a watch man. The kinda yelled - "u need to go down for kalpa". Shit!! we went down for few kms and say another light glowing. Again a steep climb. he told us that - "here water has frozen so every thing is closed". Looking at my sad face he said, sirji U can try that place, its a government one. Tell the fellow that U dont want bill, he will accept. Thanked and moved down towards another light he showed. There we banged the gates, and woke up a guy. Shyam was very tired and started shivering, and I could just hold for another few minutes. He kept his face close to my engine and touching the silencer with his gloves. Ah! then the watch man came. Convinced him to give a room. The guy was pity enough, he gave us the food he made for himself. The hot food gave us some warmth. We slept with our face every close the heater!
