day 3 : Manali to Keylong
Previous | Home | |
The day started, as a search for a cheap and good 2x4 for our luggage and Mohan to follow. We made a deal for 15K and started along. We also filled up the fuel cans. We were all set to leave by 11 am. and the Target was to reach Keylong by 6 ;).
All set to leave from Manali.

Soon the jeep stopped to fill his tank and Sunil went in search of a welding shop to get his broken side stand welded.

Apples ;)

My suggestion was to put a Pulsar side stand. But couldn't find one in Manali. So he settled for a welded stand. I and Sumit went ahead hoping that the guys will easily catch us at the photo breaks. And here comes out first break.
Tried something in HDR style :)

We then moved up and the roads started becoming worse much faster, with slush almost on all turns, road work etc. Ya, and not to forget the streams. Soon I reached the place upto which I would go in my previous "My India Ride".
The mist and the Greens

After this, ther was very big queue of trucks and jeeps, Some Bus and jeep has meet in a blind turn and there was big queue behind the both. We stealthily squeezed a small space and moved. ah! Wat a view.

After this point there was a waterfalls which still had snow in that(all dirty) and there was a huge tourist crowd. Chetan took some heroic pics ;) on the snow. I washed my shoes a bit and we moved up. ah! then started the classic issue. Whenever the bike goes below 3K rpm, pulling it up again is a issue. The Indian Comets ve a flat spot at 3K. So was always on higher speeds so had to ahead of the group. At times have to declutch to pull it up. So we reached Rohtang top. had the First Bread Omlet :)
Wanna ve a yark Ride :)

The decent on the other side was shorter as we dont decend fully and ya there was big Ditch with full muddy water on that. Stopped here to get the others.

By the time we reached Jaspa it started getting dark. The Roads from jaspa to Keylong is too good. Absolutely no roads, with occasional stream crossings. I enjoyed the roads to the max. As its not my first exp of riding in the dark on no roads(ya remember the horro trip from wayand ;)) After the streams me and jeep walla will wait for the rest to catch up. After 8 are so, Sunil asked the jeep walla, "Still how far should be go", "every time U say it has come it has come" Would see a bit of frustration ;) Sumit was like the batch is moving slow. After a while I went ahead very fast, then caught a Safari fellow. It was fun riding with him, a very decent driver I should say. Guess its his first time too. As whenever I stop to read a sign board he too stopped behind me to read the same :0).
Then there was bridge to cross to go to the other hill. There I waited for a while, no signs of bike, waited for 5 mins and then bak tracked but soon meet the guys, let Sunil in the front and came to formation ride. There I would see the guys are slowing down for sand filled areas, I felt going a bit fast and straight was more fun :)
ha then came the Keylong. and we were on time for the Moon Raise :)

Got a decent hotet. Pappa, Sumit and Chetan were restricted from watching TV ;) I and mohan were lucky ;) :o) Chetan had a little head ache and the others were a bit tired. Less we know that its the symptoms for whats waiting the next day...
