day 13: Chumatang Leh and stay at Rumtse

We had a warm sleep in the tent and in the morning he heard weird stories from every one. In the night Mohan has woken up the driver telling him that the jeep is going in the water and regjin had to console him and make him sleep in peace. Also sunil said that there were some noises outside, something scratching the tent in the night and he heard some voices too. Then on further conversation we learnt that in the mid night Sumit had got up to cover himself tight. he removed his socks and more it on his hands. remember he didnt ve a sleeping bag. While Sumit did this the jeep shook and mohan got up and have created a drama. This noise was heard by Sunil. I once got up in the night around 3 to check if the stream has reduced. To go I removed the gip of the tent got out and then closed the tent. may be Sunil has got up when I was closing the tents cover and he panicked a bit. :)

Around 5 got up to cross the stream. The Stream was still strong. we throw a lot of stones and made it a bit OK. We opted to cross the stream and let the scorpio cross empty(ofcourse with the ddriver in it ;-) While crossing I and Sunil followed the straight path while Chetan and Sumit went around to check for alternate path. we crossed without getting our foot wet. But for Sumit when we jumped to land on a stone the stome slipped a bit and his foot was went. The pain of the freexing water was too much. He ran immediately removed the shoes and started rubbing his feet. He said it was like some 100 needles pricking his feet. He guided Chetan through some other path.

The scorpio crossed with ease. Imagine it has got stuck and if we had to push it from behind with our feet in the water. Scary!! We then drove towards Chumatang. On the way we saw some artificial Forest(as the board said) Some good vegataion etc. We then reached Chumatang and bad our lunch. Meanwhile I regjin and Chetan took bath in the hot water springs. It was too hot to be touched in bare hands.

We then went to leh quick and got our bikes. meanwhile the discussion was to return via kashmir or Manali. The kashmir route will take a minimum of 4 days to reach Delhi plus a day to parcel the bikes. We hardily ve 4 days. So we decided to return back in the same route via manali. Around 4 we gathered near the fuel pump. Sunil and Sumit fuel left the pump, crossed the road and was waiting. Chetan filled and while I was filling the group started to move and chetan too left. I was delayed a bit to get the change. the I moved fast looking for them, checked for the bikes at karu but didnt see them. Then after some 20 kms I stopped check with the local with my little hindi "aa gadee, indian flag dalkae aee rashthama hotha kya".. less I knew that the question was completely wrong. The locals with full smile said yes. So I reached Rumtse. waited for a while then drove back another 10 kms looking for them. then again returned back. Took some sunset pics. Then spoke to a kid there. In effect I have almost waited for 1.5 hrs. Now I was a bit worried if they changed the plan and decided to reach Pang. I remembered that there is a check post Rumtse and the la's. So went there to check. there I asked in english and he said no. Also the numbers were not in the registry. As there was no mobile connectivity I decided I will go back to karu to check if there is some sms for me, if am not able to find them then I will continue tomorrow. I slowly continued and then after 15kms I saw the group coming. I totally surprised. Then learnt from them that soon after the petrol they stopped behind a truck to check the tyre pressure. In the process of fixing the pump they missed me and I too missed them as the truck did its job. They were worried that I had taken the kashmir route but some how they proceed to rumtse as I was speaking against the kashmir route in the discussion that we had earlier in the day.

All set and we took a room in Rumtse. Sunil and Chetan was not ok with the room they felt its stinking. I Sumit an Mohan were ok as we have got a room atleast. Then Chetan opted to sleep in the Scopio and the rest slept in the room.
